Wine and food adventure: in detail

Our French Wine and Food Adventure is perfect for those looking for a short mid-week break or a weekend away from it all in the French countryside.

Day 1

After arriving at La Maison des Vignes, you’ll have time to settle in and enjoy the peace and quiet of the French countryside. The garden, which surrounds the house and is not overlooked, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy French-style outdoor living.

Apéro and dinner under the stars is the ideal way to while away the evening.

After you have settled in, you will be served a cheeseboard supper with a glass of wine. Feel free to help yourself to coffee and tea.

Day 2

After you’ve finished your continental breakfast picnic basket (delivered to your door), which includes freshly baked bread and croissants, your guide will pick you up from La Maison des Vignes at 10:30am.

From here, you will head to a local cheese farm, where you will get the opportunity to see how the cheese is made and of course taste the produce.

If this has whet your appetite, you will be glad to know that it’s now time to tuck into your 3-course lunch with wine in a local restaurant, where you will get the chance to taste some of France’s most wonderful produce.

After lunch, your guide will take you for a stroll through the vines, where you will have the opportunity to find out about what makes the local terroir so perfect for making wine.

You will then head to a vineyard, where you will learn how the area’s celebrated rosé gris is produced (as well as the wonderful ruby red) and get the opportunity to taste some wines and learn more about what makes Châteaumeillant wine so special.

As the afternoon draws to a close, your guide will take you back to La Maison des Vignes, where you can relax or take a stroll through the surrounding picturesque countryside, before your light supper of a local food platter.

Châteaumeillant wine tours, Loire Valley, France, Wine tours and tastings, Sancerre, Quincy and Reuilly plus Paris day trips

Day 3

After a relaxed breakfast, it’s time to head home. We hope you’ve enjoyed your stay!

Accommodation:

Accommodation will be in La Maison des Vignesthe perfect place to enjoy a holiday in the French countryside.

The ground floor of the house, which is filled with character in the form of original oak beams and stone walls, consists of a large kitchen/diner, a living room and a shower room/toilet/laundry room. A steep wooden staircase leads up to the first floor, where you’ll find two bedrooms – a double and a twin.

The garden, which surrounds the house and is not overlooked, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy French-style outdoor living. Apéro and dinner under the stars is the ideal way to while away the evenings. And with no light pollution at all, the night sky really is a sight to behold.

It’s also the ideal place to spot the local wildlife (Golden Orioles, Buzzards, Pine Martens, Herons, Woodpeckers and Deer are just some of the wildlife that has been seen here), making this gîte perfect for bird spotters and nature lovers alike!

You can cycle to the nearest dépot de pain to pick up your daily dose of French bread and croissants (or it’s less than 5 minutes in the car). Alternatively, only 5 minutes’ drive from La Maison des Vignes, in the famous village of Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre, where Jacque Tati’s film Jour de Fête was shot, there is a boulangerie, a restaurant, a bar, a grocery shop, a tabac, a butcher, a pharmacy and a variety of other little shops.

Why La Maison des Vignes?

You’ll be spoilt for places to relax and enjoy this wonderfully peaceful place. Watch the wildlife from the edge of the lake at the bottom of the garden, take a nap under the shade of a parasol or pick a few grapes from the forty-year-old vine which hangs over the front door – the choice is yours.

When you arrive, you’ll find that the house is equipped with everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. There’s WiFi, both English and French TV, lots of board games and books, a BBQ and even pingpong and babyfoot tables in the hangar. Linen and towels are also provided.

And, as the house is on the border of the Indre and Creuse departments (and indeed the Centre-Val de Loire and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions), there are plenty of things to do and places to see!

Special occasions:

If you are booking the Wine and Food Adventure as a birthday surprise or even for a romantic proposal, please let us know and we can discuss how we can help to make your break even more special.

Tour sizes:

Minimum of 2 people, maximum of 4. La Maison des Vignes has 2 bedrooms (one double and one twin). You will never have to share the house with people you don’t know – if you book as 2 people, you will get the whole house to yourself.
